skadar lake camp

Lake Skadar is the largest in the Balkan peninsula with a surface area that seasonally fluctuates between 370 km2 and 530 km2 . Approximately 2/3 of the lake belong to Montenegro, while 1/3 belongs to Albania. It is interesting that the Skadar lake is cryptodepression, the biggest on Balkan, which means that some parts are below the sea level. Lake is famous for its diversity of flora and fauna. It is stated that 270 kinds of birds inhibit this Lake, 50 species of fish, trees of endemic Skadar oak, and many rare, medicinal, aromatic species.

To see most of it, we can arrange a boat trip. The starting point is nearby place Virpazar. Lonely Planet describes it as a “tiny town, gathered around a square and a river blanketed with water lilies, that serves as the main gateway to Lake Skadar National Park”. Historically very important place, with a lot of beautiful villages nearby. You can go on a boat trip to the islands of Beška and Starčevo with monasteries related to Balšić dynasty and cruise around “Montenegrin Alcatraz” and many more attractive places. All the way you will enjoy in beautiful panorama of Prokletije mountains.

piva lake glamping

Lake Piva is an artificial lake, result of the construction of Mratinje Dam on Piva river in 1975. Once you see it, you will never forget that turquoise color. Surrounded by thick forests, the atmosphere makes the whole place look like fairytale.

The lake is 45 kilometers long and up to 200 m deep. With 675 m from the sea level, it’s the most elevated artificial reservoir in the world. Our glamping resort is on the beach, so we are here to show you the beauty that hides, all the way to the deep cut canyon of Komarnica. One of the must do things is swimming, where only singing bird could break silence or maybe sound of some wild animal in the surrounding forest.

Interesting part of the story is that on the bottom of the lake is the old town Plužine. Piva Monastery was also there, but it has been relocated 7 km from Plužine. The works on its displacement lasted longer than a decade, from 1970 to 1982.
